Apple’s A13 Chip
All three handsets in the iPhone XI lineup are largely expected to sport Apple’s upcoming A13 System-On-Chip (SoC); and now, leaker Ice Universe has revealed an interesting tidbit about the upcoming iPhones. Ice Universe has long been a smartphone
In a tweet, Ice Universe claims that the new A13 chip will “greatly enhance the CPU multi-core performance and GPU,” adding that the A13’s GPU is “still far beyond the Android camp’s SoC.”
Summing up the A13’s performance upgrades, Ice Universe says that Apple’s SoC will maintain a “one-year advantage” over its rival Android chips when it debuts later this year.
Why Are iPhones So Fast?
A next-generation chip getting a performance bump over the last generation isn’t unexpected – but considering how beastly Apple’s A12 Bionic chips already are, the report suggests that this year’s iPhones are going to sport mind-blowing performance.
When the iPhone XS lineup launched back in September 2018, it was the fastest smartphone on the market by a large margin — mostly due to the A12 Bionic chip that it packed.
In fact, an in-depth assessment by AnandTech suggested that the A12 Bionic was nearly as fast as the best desktop CPUs available at the time. It may be too early to place bets on how fast the A13 will be, but it’s safe to say that it’ll feature similarly stunning speed and performance.
As far as why iPhones are so fast, it’s due to a couple of factors. Apple produces both the hardware and software that its devices use. That allows the company to maintain an incredible level of control over its handsets.
Apple is not only a leading smartphone silicon maker, but it also optimizes iOS to work in conjunction with its A-series chips. That allows it to squeeze much more performance than even the latest Google handset running the latest version of Android.
To be clear, some Android devices have been able to beat iPhones in real-life speed tests — but only when they sport significantly more RAM. Apple’s devices are able to do much more with less.
New iPhone XI Features
In addition to the aforementioned performance bumps, the iPhone XI lineup is also expected to feature other upgraded hardware.
The so-called iPhone XI and iPhone XI Max are rumored to have a triple-lens camera, which comes with some serious photographic benefits. The iPhone XIR will get upgraded to a dual-lens setup.
All three devices are also expected to sport larger batteries, two-way wireless charging, upgraded cellular and wireless performance, and new indoor navigation features.
The iPhone XI lineup will debut sometime in the fall, likely at a keynote event in September.
