WWDC ’19: Apple’s Likely to Unveil Its New Modular Mac Pro, Apple Display

Earlier this morning, Bloomberg published a report that was jam-packed with a variety of details about Apple’s upcoming software and app releases. Additionally, the publication points out that Apple could also debut hardware at the event. And there are a couple of notable possibilities.
A long-awaited modular Mac Pro, for example, could be teased at WWDC’ 19. Bloomberg hinted at the possibility in a report earlier this year, and noted today that Apple is still considering announcing the Mac Pro at this year’s developers conference.
While details about the new Mac Pro are fairly scarce, past rumors have suggested that the device could feature a new form factor consisting of stackable modules. The only required module would be a “brain module,” letting users pick and choose the exact components they need — from additional RAM to GPU options.
Apple is also said to be preparing a standalone, first-party computer monitor (internally codenamed J290). Bloomberg said that the monitor could feature support for high-dynamic range, or HDR, which will make colors look a lot better.
Previously, well-connected TF Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo forecasted that the monitor would sport a 31.6-inch display and would feature mini LED backlighting, high-contrast and some type of wide-color gamut.
It’s also possible that Apple will unveil other Mac hardware at the event. The 12-inch MacBook, which is long overdue for a refresh, comes to mind. But there hasn’t been any indication that Apple will announce a successor to that device at WWDC ’19. At least, not yet.
While WWDC is typically focused on Apple’s operating system updates, the Cupertino tech giant debuts hardware at the event fairly regularly. So although last year’s developers conference was “all about software,” there’s a good chance that that won’t be the case this year.
WWDC ’19 will be held Monday, June 3 through Friday, June 7 at the McEnery Convention Center in San Jose. Presumably, the event will kick off with a keynote address on the first day. While Apple hasn’t announced a time for the keynote, it typically takes place at 10 a.m. Pacific Time.
